Were you raised in the woods?

[ not entirely a foreign concept even to someone from space. they had to learn survival skills after all. ]

Yeah. I mean, we had a house and stuff, but we were still a pretty decent drive away from the rest of the town.

Living a little isolation. That sounds a a lot more comfortable than just being raised in the woods. What was your home like?

[impetere]

It was nice. What I remember of it, anyway. It burned down when I was eleven.

It's not your fault. And it was a long time ago.

[Cora doesn't do well with empty pity and she likes placing the blame where it is due.]

Do you like being here? I'm guessing it has a lot more space than a space station.

[ it's all out of politeness. wells says it because he knows it's supposed to be what you say when someone speaks of tragedy. the concept has been feeling stranger and stranger to him lately. ]

I like it a lot. I didn't think I'd adjust this quickly. My best friend is here too, which helps.

Is it safe?

Yeah, it's really safe. I was wary at first, but I trust them.

[It will take her more than that to trust them herself, but she's glad to know that things are good here, and that she probably doesn't have to worry about dying anytime soon.]

I know it's a lot all at once.

I'm just not used to these kinds of deals. Where I'm from, they're more about leverage than anything else. They're not actually about helping people.

I'm not sure what follows after the city, but they seem to be keeping everyone in good spirits. Even some of the skeptics, I think.

That's pretty impressive. Though I guess if they really couldn't sell someone on it, they wouldn't be here in the first place.

They can leave whenever they want too, but I've seen a lot of familiar faces in the time I've been here.

A lot of people from home? There are lot of people from mine here too.

Only three now. There were more but they decided to go home again. Unfinished business.

Yeah, I have ... way more than that. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing yet.

Remains to be seen, huh. I hope that works out for you. Maybe having some friends and family is good in the long run.

They're just all seem to know more about me than I do. It's not exactly ... they trust me more than I trust them.

Actually, everyone else I know is further down the timeline than I am.

[ there's a reason for that, but. yes. ]

How do you deal with that? Their expectations of who you're supposed to be to them.

[uprights]

It's a little less complicated for me. They don't see much of me after a while.

[ aka he died, but he doesn't really talk about that right away with anyone. ]

Me either, apparently. But I'm still ... in the middle of learning to trust them.

[Granted, she doesn't know that Wells is referring to death. She just knows she leaves town and she's way behind everyone else.]
