Sort of. It's in my blood, I know that. I used it once to uh... [ He pauses, because as he's about to say it, it sounds weird to tell her that he took his own heart out of his chest. So... ] ...help someone. I'm not sure if it worked, I can't remember.

But I think it's there, the potential? So I want to see if maybe I can learn.

What about you, do you know any magic?

[She pauses, before shaking her head. No, not magic.]

I'm a werewolf, though.

[Okay, so maybe she won't keep it a secret.]

[ His brain comes to a screeching halt for a moment, and he freezes completely, looking over at her and letting those words slowly sink in. It's always odd when you find out something momentous like this, your brain thinking backwards about moments when it might have been obvious, filling in blanks. ]

...Oh, wow that's.... [ But he doesn't have a problem with it. Ruby was a werewolf, after all. ] That's something I really don't know much about. [ He smiles a little, because he's not quite sure if he should make a big deal out of it. To him, it's just another part of someone, the way people can have magic, but it can be a curse, too. He knows what they did to werewolves in the Enchanted Forest, how they hunted them. ] Did people...ever try to hurt you because of that? [ The smile fades, and he poses the question gently. ]

[And there's a small nod because yeah. That's a pretty consistent problem in her life.]

It's how I got here, actually. Another group was trying to kill me and the Knights got me out.

[ Well, he's relieved she escaped death, and the Knights took her in, but he's upset to think of anyone wanting to hurt her for something that's just a part of her. ]

I'm really glad they got there in time.

People just...want to hurt what they don't understand. Fear can sometimes bring out the worst in people.

[impetere]

[She can't help but huff a bit at that, because no. That's the excuse everyone wants to believe, but some people are just killers. She's lost too much that's important to her to believe otherwise.]

Hunters aren't afraid of us. They just think they're better than we are just because they're human. It's easier for them to just make us into monsters instead of thinking of us as people.

[wanttobeahero]

[ She's right - in that case, it's not fear, it's just a feeling that they can kill and do whatever they want. ]

Sorry, that's - yeah, it's definitely not fear. I know some people are just bad people and they want to hurt or kill, they don't need an excuse. It's like the only thing they know to do, or want to do.

Have you been safe with the Knights, no one trying to hurt you anymore?

[impetere]

[She nods.]

Yeah. Wynn's got my back, which is ... a nice change of pace.

[wanttobeahero]

[ For Henry, what he says next is just instinct, he would promise it to anyone he cares about a lot. And so he doesn't hesitate: ]

I've got your back, too. For anything.

[impetere]

[She doesn't have to listen to his heartbeat to hear that he means it, which she appreciates. Henry just has that kind of sincerity she can't really find in other people. Maybe it's just been two long without people she can really trust, but with everyone else it's a struggle to read between the lines.

When it comes to Henry, she doesn't doubt him, which is a feeling that's just as terrifying as it is a relief.]

[ He smiles and nods once at her. Then, he glances over his shoulder, back at the area they'd just come from. ]

I guess we should head back, see who else we can help.

[impetere]

[She nods a bit, before starting to turn to head back.]

But definitely milkshakes later?

[ He smiles, and the last thing he says before they part is: ] It's a promise. Wouldn't miss that for anything.

[She nods with a small smile, before off she goes, back to helping in the medical tent. /scene]
