[The wedding had been lovely.
Not that she wouldn't expect it to be, considering how long it had been coming. Allison and Lydia's planning was perfect and she and Scott couldn't be happier, which is really the important thing. Add to the fact that Tyler had been an awesome date stand in, and the evening had gone a lot more smoothly than she expected.
(It still hurt, even though she'd been prepared. It still stung a little more sharply than she thought it would, seeing him with another girl, but for the most part she was keeping it together. She's always been good at that, burying her emotions where no one else could see them.
The funny thing is, he's always the one who managed to see through them.)
But Tyler's spending some time talking to Nadia and her mom, and she needs a little air, so she makes her way out to the patio near the dance floor, hanging out with her drink. Allison and Scott are dancing together like the rest of the world had fallen away and it was just the two of them there, just like always. They always were perfect together, always so sure of what they wanted, and she envied them for that.
Malia and Isaac too.
And now she's standing, alone, on the side of a dance floor at a wedding where she should be happier, but she's not. There's still that nagging feeling of something being missing. She just wishes she wasn't so sure of what it was.]

Of course, he kept away from the preserve. Thankfully Suzanna was a city girl and not at all interested in hiking around the woods.
But the day of the wedding was unavoidable, but he was able to offer smiles and hugs to the Hales when they arrived and came to check on him. All but Cora, who he spied sitting with another wolf from the looks of it, all fancy dress and tastes.
The tiny glimmer of hope he had that maybe she had realized her mistake and was waiting for him died, and so he just kept himself busy with Scott or Suzanna so he wasn't alone for long. Maybe if he could avoid her until then, he could escape without having to deal with the tugging inside of his heart.
But Suzanna needed to use the restroom, so he went outside for air and to check his work messages, loosening his bow tie in the process. and of course fate would put her out there too.]
Sorry, didn't realize this patio was taken.
[and he turned to go just as quickly]

She has to believe it is.
The words, however, still hit her like a bucket of ice water, and when she turns to see him running from her, she swallows hard before calling after him.]
Stiles, wait. I can go, you don't have to ...
[ ... flee from her like she has the plague.]
no subject
I just need to make a call. I can do it anywhere else. You were here first.
no subject
It's fine. I was going to get another drink anyway.
[She shifts the strap on her dress, before moving to step around him and head back into the main room.]
no subject
Why do you have to always be so difficult?
no subject
I'm not trying to be difficult. I'm just trying to stay out of your way.
[Since you clearly don't want her here. Not that she blames him, but what does he want her to do? She keeps her voice level, trying not to start a fight, but he's the one who came at her already on the defensive.]
no subject
[yeah, that may have come out a bit meaner than he meant to.]
no subject
And now I'm leaving first. So please. Take it.
[And with that, she's going to turn and go.]

It was Scott who found him first, always in tune to his best friend and having excused himself from Allison to grab a bottle of water and rush outside to calm his friend back down, asking his wife to distract Suzanna a moment so that she wouldn't see her boyfriend like this over another woman.
Anyone with a wolf nose though would be able to smell the anxiety coming from the patio though, and knowing Stiles's scent signature on it.
Derek looked at his sister, as did Tyler, confused.]

Malia watches it as it happens and she taps Tyler on the shoulder before pointing after her cousin.]
Go.
[Of all the people that should not be in the reception sans Cora by the time Stiles comes back in, it's Tyler. Which ... she doesn't even know what he's doing here. But she's guessing that he at least knows Cora well enough at this point that he can at least try and calm her down.]
I'll check on Stiles.
no subject
Cora? Cora come on, it's just me.
[meanwhile, Stiles is getting his panic back under control, focusing on Scott's voice. It had been a long time since he'd had one of these, and it came on hard and fast and he was still shaking a bit. He looked at Scott, apology in his eyes and voice]
I thought I could do it. Sorry, man.
no subject
Never mind the fact that Stiles is supposed to be her friend and he avoids her every time he sees her. She's pissed at both of them, to be honest, but for right now she's just going to let Scott do his best friend thing and wait to be acknowledged.]

[Scott stood up, keeping a firm hand on Stiles' shoulder as he took a drink from the water. He looked up to see Malia standing there, and he offered a small apologetic smile]
Hey Malia. I'm fine, just...
[no, he can't lie. he's not fine, and he can't hide that from a Hale. He knows them too well. Even when sometimes he wished Scott had never been bitten all those years ago]
Yeah.

He hates me.
[The words are small, quiet, an admission of something she should have known would happen when she let him go, but it still took her by surprise, because seeing him look at her like that, talk to her the way he was - it's not something she's used to, nor is it something she could have prepared herself for.]
no subject
Kinda, but not really. But I think he's still just hurt and it's coming out as anger. Trust me, I'm an expert at anger and that smell wasn't hatred.
no subject
I just ... I'm not sure what I was expecting it just ... wasn't that.
[She shakes her head.]
Coming here was a bad idea.

[she shakes her head.]
He wasn't trying to start anything. It just ... happened.
no subject
Well, you've got every right to be in there right now. But if you want to go back to the house, I'll drive. But you'll still need to say your goodbyes.
no subject
I'll be okay. I just need some air.
no subject
Want me to go get Lydia so she can scold you on messing up her work and then help fix it?
no subject
I can do it myself, I just need a mirror.
no subject
This work?
no subject
No, but the one in the car should work. Where did we park?
no subject
You can also take a drink of the stuff inside. It's strong enough to give you a kick for a few minutes.
