[The wedding had been lovely.

Not that she wouldn't expect it to be, considering how long it had been coming. Allison and Lydia's planning was perfect and she and Scott couldn't be happier, which is really the important thing. Add to the fact that Tyler had been an awesome date stand in, and the evening had gone a lot more smoothly than she expected.

(It still hurt, even though she'd been prepared. It still stung a little more sharply than she thought it would, seeing him with another girl, but for the most part she was keeping it together. She's always been good at that, burying her emotions where no one else could see them.

The funny thing is, he's always the one who managed to see through them.)

But Tyler's spending some time talking to Nadia and her mom, and she needs a little air, so she makes her way out to the patio near the dance floor, hanging out with her drink. Allison and Scott are dancing together like the rest of the world had fallen away and it was just the two of them there, just like always. They always were perfect together, always so sure of what they wanted, and she envied them for that.

Malia and Isaac too.

And now she's standing, alone, on the side of a dance floor at a wedding where she should be happier, but she's not. There's still that nagging feeling of something being missing. She just wishes she wasn't so sure of what it was.]

I came out here to check my e-mails and she was here, and I went to leave so she could have her space since she was here first and she's just... stubborn.

[he shakes his head, running his hand through his hair]

She was always so stubborn.

[Which. Grrr. She sighs heavily before leaning back in her seat a bit.]

I've given you the "Even though I love her dearly, my cousin is a stupid idiot" speech, right?

Yeah, you have. A couple of times.

[he's breathing normal again, the attack passed and he slumps back into the chair, exhausted]

But stupid or not, it was her choice. And it's too late to change things.

[She wants to scream at him that it's never too late. There have been millions upon millions of romances written that started just like this, and they all manage to end in happily ever after.

She wants to tell him to The Notebook this shit and get over himself but since Stiles is the hurt party, she can't really. She knows that the ball is in Cora's court.

God, this is a mess.

So she tries a different tack.]

We miss you, ya know. I know you want to keep the hell away from the pack, but ... eventually you guys are going to have to learn to deal with each other. You can't stay pissed as hell at her forever. It's not healthy.

[no, it's too late, Malia, because Stiles made a decision on his way to Beacon Hills and his mother's engagement is in his back pocket, waiting for the right moment tonight to ask Suzanna. But he's not going to reveal that just yet]

I miss you guys too. And it's not just her... Google keeps me pretty busy so it's hard to come home. You guys know you can come visit us thought, right?

It's not the preserve, but we've got a nice sized house.

[he doesn't really want to talk about his feelings though regarding being angry at Cora. It was more complicated than that]

[No, don't tell her that, because her husband(-to-be?) will have to come and restrain her from saying things she really really shouldn't say. And she also doesn't really want to come and see Suzanna because from what she's seen of the woman, she can't really say she's a fan but ... fine.

If it gets her Stiles, then fine.]

Sure. I'll see when Isaac isn't working.

[totally husband to be. There's just going to be an extra long engagement since Isaac was waiting for this wedding to pass before starting his process of becoming a member of the pack.

But that aside, Stiles gives her a smile because he missed his friends a lot]

Good. Because I do miss you guys a lot.

[Okay then. Husband to be. Who she will probably be ranting at anyway but she'd do it when no one is watching. Poor, poor Isaac.]

We miss you too. And I want you at my stupid wedding.

I'll be there for it. And I want you at mine.

[nope, oops, that slipped out and he grimices]

but um... keep that quiet for a few days? I haven't asked yet. Still waiting for the right moment.

[Her lips press together in a "Malia is not happy" face but she nods in agreement. If she presses them together hard enough it totally almost looks like a smile.]

Sure. I can do that.

[Scott, of course, is happy for Stiles, squeezing his shoulder and smiling like the puppy he is.]

Won't tell a soul. But congrats, man.

[Stiles nods, then stands up, looking at Malia a moment before holding his hands out. It's what he always did when asking for a hug]

I'll make sure the date doesn't interfere with yours.

It better not.

[And she'll give him that, wrapping her arms around his shoulders tightly. It's not what she wants, but if it's what he wants, then she'll try to be supportive.]

She better make you happy, or I'll kick her ass.

I'd warn her, but she's in the dark on the whole werewolf thing. Not really ready to give her the whole "werewolves are real" speech and all.

She doesn't have to be in on werewolves to know that I can kick her ass.

[Because Malia's a brawler, even without her wolf.]

Alright, then if things ever go bad, you're first in line to kick her ass. But Things aren't going to go wrong. I promise.

I hope not.

[She pulls back with a smile that was closer to a genuine one.]

Really. I want you to be happy.

I know. And I am. Especially with you guys as my friends. Can't really get any better than that.

Good.

[She doesn't fully buy that she's happy, but she'll take his word for it for now.]

Alright, we should probably get back out there. I mean, Scott, Allison's probably ready to shoot me. And if not her, Lydia's going to have my head.

[Malia nods in agreement, before pulling away and heading back towards the ballroom and they all segue into the Tyler/Cora thread because yay continuity!]
